Santo Domingo – A few days before the start of the cyclonic season this year, the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, assured that this agency is adopting the necessary measures to protect crops against possible impacts of natural phenomena and guarantee the food security of the Dominicans.
The head of the portfolio said that they are working in coordination with Indrhi, Banco Agrícola, Inespre and other institutions that make up the Agricultural Cabinet, in cleaning irrigation canals and retaining walls, improving neighborhood roads and technical advice on farms to avoid damage caused to production, mainly of bananas.
Through a statement, Cruz indicated that agricultural insurance is being strengthened in order to protect the economic investment and crops of the producers. This guarantee is promoted through the Dominican Agricultural Insurance Company (Agrodosa) and the General Directorate of Agricultural Risks (DIGERA).
For the minister, it is vitally important to guide agricultural producers on the need to ensure their crops, as a way to avoid significant losses. He argued that insurance is a risk protection mechanism that guarantees investment against unpredictable events such as cyclones, tornadoes, floods and drought.
